The FRD LMP3 (Le Mans Prototype 3) Series is the brand new premier prototype series in China. Backed by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO), the championship brings together the best drivers, teams and selection of LMP3 cars to compete over a five-round format that will be managed and implemented to the highest international standards.
With four rounds held in China, the professional competition will see two LMP3 cars entered from each team; driven by one professional international driver and one Chinese motorsport rising star to ensure the highest quality Chinese driver development the country has ever seen.
The FRD LMP3 Series offers one of the most attractive championship prizes in the region and will provide a true stepping stone to the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the most successful team and drivers of the competition.
The championship winners of the FRD LMP3 Series will receive free use of a Ligier JS P2 LMP2 car as well as free entry into the Asian Le Mans Series for the 2017-2018 season. A Ligier JS P3 LMP3 car will also be provided to the 1st runner up to participate in the 2017-2018 Asian Le Mans Series as well.
If the winner of the 2017-2018 Asian Le Mans series is the FRD LMP3 Series champion, they will be provided with free entry to enter the infamous 24 Hours of Le Mans with a Ligier JS P2 LMP2 car and racing support costs provided by Ligier’s maker, Onroak Autotmotive.

KC Motorgroup Ltd (KCMG) is a Hong Kong based race team founded by former racing driver Paul Ip in 2007. KCMG has competed in a variety of championships including touring car, prototype, GT and open-wheel categories, and has found great success in endurance racing including winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMP2 category in 2015.
Craft-Bamboo Racing was created when Hong Kong’s Craft Racing and England’s Bamboo Engineering merged in 2014, since then the team has gone on to compete in the WEC, ALMS, TCR International Series, WTCC, GT Asia and several invitational endurance events; achieving great success and winning in every single racing discipline they have entered.
S&D Motorsports was established in Hong Kong in 2004 by race car driver, Frank Yee and professional driver and manager of the Malaysia team, Harry Chai. Together, they support and manage race teams, primarily from Asia and have competed in numerous multiple top level championships, while also providing driver management, training and technical support.
The Philippines based motorsport team was founded in 2003, and brings together talent from both Europe and Asia. The team has competed in Asian Le Mans, Formula 3, V6 Asia, Formula BMW Pacific Series, Formula Pilota, Formula Masters China Series and the GT Asia Series’ making them one of Asia’s most experienced racing outfits.
In 2015 a new category of sports-prototype car for endurance racing was built, LMP3 – Le Mans Prototype 3. LMP3 becomes the first step on the ladder before moving up to the LMP2 and LMP1 classes; with LMP1 being the top-level prototype racer used in highest class for the WEC and the Le Mans 24 Hour.
An LMP3 car has a closed cockpit, carbon chassis with tubular steel roll cage and is powered by a Nissan 420 bhp normally aspirated V8 engine, and an X-Trac gearbox. It is identical for all chassis produced by the five different manufacturers to keep costs low and competition at the maximum level.
